DIY Beauty :: High Frequency Facial

If you’ve spent any time on my blog or social media pages, you know I love all things beauty and all things relating to SKINCARE.  Today I am telling you all about my favorite at home facial device that helps me keep my skin clear!

I suffered from cystic acne for years and once I had that under control, I became a regular at the best medispa ever because I needed to reverse years of scaring.  Thankfully I found Juvly Aesthetics and learned about all kinds of amazing facial options to help combat new breakouts and to help reverse the acne scaring.  One of the most surprising & interesting facials I tried was a High Frequency Facial.

WHAT IS A HIGH FREQUENCY FACIAL

A simple explanation from The Natural Art of Skin Care says:  “The safe, gentle oscillating and oxygenating power of highfrequency electrical currents has been shown to enhance blood circulation, increase collagen and elastin production, eliminate toxins and acne-causing bacteria, encourage lymphatic drainage, and improve skin care product absorption.”

Sounds amazing, right?!

WHY I LOVE HIGH FREQUENCY FACIALS

I purchased my own High Frequency device (THIS one) about a year ago and it is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE beauty tools.  Why?  Because it zaps zits.  When I feel a zit coming on; it’s just under the surface and I want to get rid of it before it manifests as an ugly volcano on my face, I can treat with my High Frequency device and it ends up healing before surfacing.  Also, blackheads.  I used to pick my blackheads which is a huge no-no and now that I treat regularly with my High Frequency device, I don’t have blackheads to pick anymore!

HOW TO :: HIGH FREQUENCY FACIAL AT HOME

There are a few items you’ll need to obtain in order to get started.  Here is a general list I compiled for guidance:

    1. High Frequency Facial Machine (I have THIS model; it’s under $40 and was recommended by my Esthetician)
    2. Alcohol for cleaning your HF Wand
    3. Gentle Facial Cleanser (I swear by THIS one.)
    4. Satin Scrunchies – gentle on hair & no metal (optional)
    5. Favorite Facial Serum
    6. Facial Gauze (optional)

Once you have the items you need to complete your DIY treatment, make sure you read the instructions included with your High Frequency device.  I’m also sharing the following tips with you because these may or may not be included in your instructional manual, depending on which device you purchase:

    1. Remove all metal jewelry – earrings, necklaces, rings, other piercings.  Be careful when removing earrings, necklaces, rings, and other piercings, especially when the piercing is fresh. Avoid using any acidic facial products near the piercing, and when using heavy-duty treatments, remember to keep them away from your piercings. It can be hard to remove a nose ring when it is fresh, therefore make sure that you learn more at UrbanBodyJewelry.com before taking out any jewelry from an unhealed piercing.
    2. Hold a finger on the glass wand as you are turning on your device and do not remove your finger from the wand until you have pressed the wand to your face/treatment area.  This trick will help eliminate the tiny ‘zap’ feeling when you touch the wand to your face/treatment area.
    3. You will want to have a ‘barrier’ to help the glass wand glide over your skin.  You can use your gentle cleanser, your favorite beauty serum, and/or a sheet of facial gauze.
