Experiment with Scent :: The Candle Lab

A few weeks ago, I was invited to a special influencers event held at The Candle Lab in downtown Columbus, Ohio. If you’re not familiar with The Candle Lab, it is a DIY custom scent bar where you can make your own candles, lotions, room sprays & more!

“Whether you choose to pour a candle, mix a lotion, or craft a room spray, you’ll find your perfect scent – and have fun creating it!”- The Candle Lab

The employees are amazing – extremely helpful and very knowledgeable on the entire process. I was given a card to write down my favorite scents on then I went to the Scent Sample Wall and smelled a TON of different scents. They have scents that would be pretty common for candles; vanillas, cookie, cotton, and I found some obscure scents I’d never thought of for candles; leather, dirt, tomato leaves. I was somewhat nervous about what flavors I was righting down – what if they smell awful together?!

Once I had seven scents that I liked, I took my card back to the counter for a Candle Lab expert to assist me with the next steps. She was able to partner scents I had listed and make suggestions on what would result in the best scents. We ended up settling on absinthe, basil & rosemary.

Absinthe, rosemary & basil were the scents I choose. The Candle Lab uses pure fragrance oils!

Combining the oils together is a process of more smelling; as you pour the oils together I continued to smell the combination so that I could achieve the right levels of sweetness.

Scent oils & melted natural soy wax poured into a glass jar with a cotton paper wick.

Once my oils were combined, I poured the concoction into the wax and mixed. I also was given a label for the bottom of my custom candle that I customized. The candle took about an hour and half to set so I enjoyed some wine, Cameron Mitchell catering & socialized for other local influencers.

My finished candle and lovely gift bag.

Pouring your own candle is a unique, fun, and relaxing activity perfect for a ladies’ night, date night, kid’s birthday party, team-building event, solo outing, and any other reason to get a group together!” – The Candle Lab
